Repairing and maintaining Japanese cars is his business.

Evan Maurer was 19 and fresh out of high school when he decided to open his own garage.

Twenty years later, he has transformed his love of cars into A&H Motorsport, a shop that deals with everything related to Japanese cars.

"I have a family of customers," the Northampton resident said. "One person gets their car done, I've got their sons and daughters, too."

Maurer started his career working on British cars. But with so few of them in the area, he decided to switch to the far more popular Japanese cars.

His mechanics can do all the required maintenance and repairs, except bodywork. Outside contractors come in to do paint-less dent removal, satellite radio installation, and detailing. The shop's also an authorized dealer of Yokohama-brand tires.

A&H services Acura, Geo, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Scion, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Suzuki.

Maurer spends most of his time in the front office, greeting customers and overseeing orders.

"I'd rather deal with the customers," he said. "The mechanics would rather deal with me."

Christine Gascon drives an hour from her Harleysville home to take her Honda Accord, which is still under warranty, to Maurer's shop.

"When I take my car to him, when I'm in his little waiting room waiting, I never am thinking, 'Is he going to try to pull something on me?' " she said. "I completely trust him. He is the car's doctor. He really has your car's best interests at heart. He just completely takes care of you."

Of course, he won't do any work on her husband's American car.

A&H, which was in Horsham for many years before moving to Northampton in March, sees about 50 cars a week, Maurer said. The volume makes up for the lack of major maintenance needed on newer cars, he said.

"We're not looking to make a fast buck from people," he said. "I just like to make people happy with the repairs we do. There's gratification in fixing someone's car and they're happy with it."
